Tin Camels
Standing proudly on the Prinsep Street roundabout, the tin camels pay tribute to the Goldfields history. In the early days of the Gold Rush, freight was carried on the backs of camels. Teams of camels would walk between towns to deliver resources from building supplies to mail. They acted as the original road trains.
Driving around the Goldfields, you may notice some extra width on our roads. This was so the camel trains could turn around to travel to their next destination.
Present day Norseman still holds this part of history close as the corrugated iron sculptures stand proudly in the town’s centre.
Interpretive signage surrounds the intersection with all the details of the camel legacy.
You can find the iconic Tin Camels located on the roundabout near the Woodlands Centre, be sure to stop and snap a pic!
